Care & Maintenance

Protecting Your
Investment

Alumatex systems are engineered for strength, performance, and lasting beauty. While they are low maintenance, they are not no maintenance. Regular cleaning protects your investment and ensures your Alumatex battens, cladding, and slat systems continue to look their best for years to come.

Over time, exposure to UV light, salt air, and urban pollution can cause any coated surface to show signs of natural weathering such as slight chalking, reduced gloss levels, or minor discolouration. A simple cleaning routine will help reduce these effects and remove harmful contaminants before they can cause surface damage.

How to Clean Alumatex

For best results:

  1. Clean in cool conditions — only when surface temperature is below 25°C and out of direct sunlight.

  2. Rinse first — use a garden hose to remove loose dirt, dust, and debris.

  3. Use mild soap and water — wash surfaces gently using a soft sponge, microfibre cloth, or soft bristle brush with a pH-neutral detergent.

  4. Avoid pressure washers — high-pressure cleaning can damage the finish and void warranty.

  5. Rinse thoroughly — after cleaning, hose down all surfaces with fresh water to remove any remaining residue.

For stubborn stains or caked-on deposits, soak the area before gently rubbing with a wet sponge. Never use abrasive materials or harsh scrubbing techniques.

What Not to Use

Do not use:

  • Thinners, turpentine, or white spirits
  • Citrus-based or caustic cleaners
  • Cutting compounds or abrasive cleaning pads

These substances can damage the protective coating, accelerate weathering, and void warranty coverage.

If deeper cleaning is required, you may use Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) or methylated spirits sparingly — followed by immediate washing with water and a pH-neutral detergent. Always test these in a small, inconspicuous area first to ensure there is no colour change or surface damage. Never clean when surfaces are hot or in direct sunlight.

When to Clean

Cleaning should start as soon as your Alumatex system is installed. During installation and construction, ensure that concrete, plaster, paint splatter, sealants, and sunscreen are promptly removed before they have a chance to dry or cure on the surface.

Recommended cleaning schedule:

Environment Type Description Minimum Cleaning Frequency
Urban or rural
Low salt and pollution levels
Every 12 months
Coastal or industria
High salt, humidity, or airborne pollutants
Every 6 months
Sheltered or non-rainwashed areas
Eaves, soffits, or covered facades
Inspect every 3–6 months and clean as required

Ongoing Care Tips

  • Regularly inspect joints, fixings, and sealant points for debris buildup.

  • Use soft water where possible to reduce mineral spotting.

  • Wipe away bird droppings, tree sap, or surface contaminants promptly.

  • Avoid direct contact with wet concrete or steel to prevent staining or galvanic reaction.
